I recently saw an article about a mother who hired a nanny from Jilin and was extremely dissatisfied. She then warned others to be cautious about hiring nannies from Northeast China and Henan. Some people accused her of regional discrimination, but she quickly explained that she wasn't biased against people from those two regions, but rather had a problem with that particular nanny. It almost seemed like the article was deleted.

I live in Los Angeles, and I have a few WeChat groups for domestic helpers, mostly nannies and agencies looking for work. Every day, I'm flooded with nanny job postings. Honestly, half of ten job postings specify that they don't want nannies from Northeast China or Henan, and even those who don't look good are rejected. Occasionally, I see nannies from Gansu or Anhui rejected, but the percentages are very small.

The reason for rejecting nannies from Northeast China may be related to temperament, while the reason for rejecting nannies from Henan may be that they're too shrewd. Employers want nannies who can actually do the job. Of course, this doesn't mean that nannies from Northeast China and Henan are all bad. There are both reliable and unreliable nannies in every region. Some employers specifically specify which regions they prioritize, for example, employers in Northeast China specifically seek nannies from Northeast China.

I remember when I first started working in the domestic service industry, the nannies themselves said some employers didn't want nannies from certain regions. I asked why, what was wrong with them? Years later, I finally found the answer!

I think the public's eyes are sharp. No one is born with a bias against their region. Who would have the time to criticize others unless they'd been ripped off? Of course, we can't generalize about nannies from Northeast China and Henan. My first nanny was from Northeast China, and we got along pretty well. Maybe I appreciated her character and her work, so I've always accepted nannies from Northeast China.

But to be honest, the overall quality level is really not good. Of all the nannies I've met, there are only one or two who are decent. So everyone should be cautious when looking for a nanny!
